1950’s Navajo Squash Blossom – Kingman Turquoise & Sterling Silver

It doesn’t get more traditional than this 1950’s Navajo Squash Blossom featuring hand-stamped sterling silver leaf appliqué, each one framing vibrant Kingman Turquoise. Notice the Naja center top and bottom stone and the shadow boxing of the stones — all done by hand. Lots and lots of silver used here.

This premier example of mid-century Navajo silversmithing showcases high-grade Kingman turquoise from Arizona, known for its rich sky-blue color and natural darker matrix characteristic of 1950s designs.

Each turquoise cabochon is framed with individually hand-cut and stamped sterling silver leaves. The stones are set within a recessed shadowbox design, creating depth and emphasizing the brilliance of the turquoise. The large inverted crescent Naja pendant — a traditional symbol of protection — is heavily embellished with matching turquoise and detailed leaf work.

The necklace is strung on a double strand of hand-bench-made Navajo pearls, with each silver bead individually seamed and polished.
