Vintage 1970s Native American Bow Tie Squash Blossom necklace featuring turquoise set in sterling silver. Every piece of silver is shaped and assembled entirely by hand — no press work or machines used.

This Bow Tie style showcases a distinctive variation of the traditional squash blossom design, with side “blossoms” shaped like ribbons or bow ties. This free-form interpretation emerged during the 1960s and 1970s as artists explored more contemporary expressions of classic Southwestern jewelry.

Crafted in sterling silver and set with turquoise cabochons, the necklace features a large crescent-shaped Naja centerpiece. The Naja symbol has roots in Middle Eastern culture and was historically used as a protective talisman before being adopted and reinterpreted by Navajo artists in the late 19th century.

High-quality vintage examples from this era were hand-assembled, including hand-shaped silver components and hand-seamed beads. Some pieces from the period are unsigned, while others may feature hallmarks such as “GM” or “RJ Sterling.”

A classic 1970s Bow Tie squash blossom necklace showcasing traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive mid-century design.
